Harness Racing New Zealand is proud to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our horses on and off the track. This includes initiatives to ensure they stay healthy, are trained ethically, and are always treated well throughout their career. HRNZ also spearheads Life After Racing programmes and participates in research on ways to improve care and minimise injury.
HERO Initiative and The Horse Ambulance Trust
An initiative of HRNZ, HERO stands for Harness Education and Rehoming Opportunities. They emphasise the development of positive pathways for horses exiting the competitive environment and encouraging industry participants to factor retirement into their day-to-day welfare programmes.
